In the beginning of the 2014/15 academic year in Ukraine there were 1 million 676 thousand students (1 million 438 thousand in higher educational institutions of III-IV accreditation level and 238 thousand in educational institutions of I-II level of accreditation). This does not include data from the temporarily occupied Crimea. There is currently no complete information on Donetsk and Lugansk oblasts, so they are not included too.
The largest percentage of students studying in educational institutions of I-II accreditation levels are among population of Zhytomyr and Chernivtsi oblasts. The smallest percentage – among the population of Zakarpattia Oblast.
As for the students studying in higher educational institutions of III-IV accreditation level, there are two largest student centers – Kyiv and Kharkiv. Students make up 13.4% of Kyiv population and 11.9% of Kharkiv population. It is 6.21% in Kharkiv Oblast, but according to the map all educational institutions of this Oblast are located in the city of Kharkiv.
The lowest percentage of students are among the population of Kirovograd Oblast (1.02%).
Of course, statistics does not separate the number of full-time students from those of distance learning. Therefore, these percentages are not equal to the number of students permanently living in specified regions.
